Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb Breaks Records With His Eighth COOP Title

The 2015 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is more than halfway over with 44 events in the books at time of writing.

Taking place on PokerStars until Sept. 27 and featuring 70 action-packed events with $45 million in guaranteed prize pools, the series has attracted some of poker’s biggest stars to the virtual felt and seen plenty big names walk away with titles.

As PokerNews reported in our last update, Germany’s "tobi123456" remains the biggest winner thus far after winning $654,000 for taking first place in the $10,300 High-Roller that boasted a $2 million guaranteed prize pool. This is almost certain to change later in the day with the $51,000 Super High Roller down to its final eight players. Barring any deals, this event will pay $851,000 to first place.

Canada’s Mike “Tîmex” McDonald is currently in the lead heading into Day 2 with 237,712 in chips and blinds scheduled to be 1,000/2,000 with a 250 ante when play resumes.

In other news, Shaun “shaundeeb” Deeb broke a record on Sunday by winning his eighth COOP championship. PokerStars "COOP" titles include wins in the WCOOP, the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), and Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP). Deeb won WCOOP-44: $215 NL Hold’em [4-Max] that was held with a $400,000 guaranteed prize pool, and he pocketed for $68,000.

This win marks the third time Deeb has won a WCOOP event, along with five different SCOOP events. Deeb is now tied for second place for the most WCOOP titles alongside Anders "Donald" Berg, Ryan “g0lfa” D’Angelo, and Mikal "mikal12345" Blomlie. Dan “djk123″ Kelly currently holds the record for the most WCOOP titles with four.

Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah almost became the first person to win two WCOOP titles this year when he finished in second place in WCOOP-34: $320 NL Hold’em [6-Max, Optional Reentry] for $71,064. Leah, who was vying for his third overall WCOOP title, won WCOOP-27: $215 PL Omaha [6-Max, Progressive Super-Knockout] earlier in the series for $28,432.42 and $8,794.49 in bounties. French poker player Yorane “viirusss” Kerignard beat Leah heads up, collecting the title and the first-place prize of $95,256.

The biggest event is yet to come, though, as the WCOOP $5,200 Main Event promises to pay out at least $10 million in guaranteed prizes. The three-day tournament starts on Sept. 27 at 14:30 ET with satellites and sub-satellites currently running on PokerStars around the clock.

Here is a look at the final table results of the latest WCOOP events:
